Delphi, the navel of the earth, is one of the most beautiful and imposing landscapes in Greece. Here you can find the famous Oracle, as well as the cradle of the Amfiktionion. Do not miss the Museum of Delphi. Eastward where the two Phaedriadon rocks meet, the famous Kastalia spring is located. It is worthwhile to visit the house of Angelos and Eva Sikelianou, which has been converted into the Museum of Delphic Feasts. You will also find numerous shops and workplaces of folklore art.
In the beginning of the olive planted valley you will find Chrisso, a small town with houses (some of them neoclassical, a sign of prosperity of the citizens from the produce of the olive) which are surrounded by lush green gardens, two picturesque squares which are cooled by two old maple trees, with traditional tavernas, with polite and hospitable residents. North westerly of Chrisso at a distance of 7 kms you can find the Monastery of the Prophet Elias, with a magnificent view, well known from the Revolution of 1821. You can admire the superb wooden carved temple, the work of a famous artist from Epirus, as well as the valuable library. |
