Region: Peloponnese Area: Messinia, Chrani
The prefecture of Messenia is located on the southwestern tip of the Peloponnese, and borders with the Ionian Sea and the Messenia Bay.
There are totally 140 km of coastline where one can see large and small beaches.
Here the visitor can enjoy swimming and relaxation, can visit important historical monuments, among them are some of the finest castles of Greece, will experience the local produce (oil, olives, figs) and will experience the intense, rural life of small villages.

Unsurpassed combination of beaches, historical monuments, rural life and activities in nature.
Temperate environment, unadulterated by mass tourism.
In Kalamata, the capital of the prefecture, you can visit the interesting Archaeological Museum, the Byzantine church of the Holy Apostles and the Castle.

It is also worth visiting the castles located in the coastal towns of Methoni and Koroni and the archaeological site of Ancient Messene (near the village of Mavromati).

Another interesting route takes you to the beautiful port of Pylos, where the famous naval battle of Navarino took place.

Just north of Pylos, you will find the Palace of Nestor, and the Yalova lagoon, one of the most important ornithological migration flyways in Greece.
