The Peloponnese – Archaeological wandering and acquaintance with rural life

The Peloponnese – Archaeological wandering and acquaintance with rural life

From Ancient Olympia to the Byzantine castle town of Mystras, the ancient sites of the Peloponnese are famous and attract thousands of travellers from every corner of the earth.
Apart from the antiquities, the Peloponnese has a rich nature and rural life, which you can enjoy with staying at one of the selected rural guesthouses of the Guest Inn network.

Our first stop is the northern Peloponnese and a visit to the ancient city of Corinth. For your stay, we recommend the Perdari Mansion, located at the Feneos plateau, and at the heart of the original village of Goura. Very close to the guesthouse is the Stimphalia Lake, famous from the Hercules myths.

We continue the journey to the western Peloponnese, and we can not leave out a visit to Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Nearby is the magnificent forest of Foloi, ideal for hikes in the nature.
Our recommendations for your stay focus on two houses: the Bacchus Guesthouse, just four kilometers from Olympia, and the Villa Georgina, located at Korakochori, 20 km from the archaeological site. In the same area, wine lovers will discover one of the best wineries in the Peloponnese (the Mercouri Domain).

The passage from the west to the east Peloponnese is through Mainalo, a beautiful mountain with fir-trees. At the heart of the mountain is the village of Vitina, an ideal basis to explore the local attractions, including picturesque villages, an open-air water power museum and magnificent monasteries (the Baptist and the Philosopher Monasteries). The traditional Grand VytinaHotel provides accommodation in a quiet environment.

In the south of the Peloponnese, the Byzantine castle town of Mystras attracts the attention of visitors. For your stay, we recommend the Meterizi Guesthouse, located at a very relaxed environment among forests and grasslands. Here you will discover the true beauty of the mountainous Peloponnese and visit the villages on Mount Parnonas.

Climbing up the eastern part of the Peloponnese, the archaeological focus is on the ancient theater of Epidaurus and the Mycenae palace. For your stay, you can choose the Eleni Traditional Apartments, located just twelve miles from Epidaurus, and built inside an orange grove. Another good choice is the Omorfi Poli Guesthouse, located in the historic city of Nafplion.

Guest Inn is the first Greek network of selected traditional rural accommodations. The Guest Inn concept applies to travelers who are in search of unique holiday; to those who appreciate the natural countryside and its beautiful landscapes; and to those who are drawn to the adventure of discovering new places and people - away from “the madding crowds” of tourists.
